Robert Heinrich Thomsen was born December 14, 1926, on a farm south of Wakefield to Carl Heinrich and Alma Martha (Lueders) Thomsen. He was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of rural Wakefield on June 30, 1927, and confirmed March 17, 1940, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender. He attended District #7 in Wayne County. He liked to tell people that when he got out of the eighth grade, he was 13 and had his own team of horses and farmed full time with his father and brothers until he got married.  Robert married Mildred Cecelia Von Seggern October 5, 1947, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Emerson.  They lived on the same farmstead south of Wakefield for 67 years, until a tornado destroyed it in 2014 and they moved to Wayne. He loved farming, his cows, and calves.  He was a voting member at St. John’s in Wakefield and Grace Lutheran Church holding various offices including Elder, Trustee, and Duo Club.  He served on the school board at District #1, was treasurer of the rural telephone company, and leader of two 4-H Clubs.  His greatest joy was watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in school and sporting events.  He liked to tell stories and enjoyed his twice daily coffee gatherings in Wakefield and Wayne. Above all, he loved his wife and family.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mildred (Milly) Thomsen; their children, Doreen (Myron) Heinemann of Elkhorn, Alan (Julie) Thomsen of Wayne, Janeen (Keith) Berg of Syracuse, and Leslie “Les” Thomsen of Long Pine; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Morris, Marvin, Otto, Louis, and Elmer; sisters, Mamie and Lizzie.
