Memorial Services for Arland Aurich, age 92, of Wayne, will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne on Saturday, October 13 at 2 p.m. Memorial Visitation will be at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne on Saturday, October 13 from 12:30 p.m. until Service Time with family present. Interment with Military Rites will be at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wayne. A reception with Arland’s family will be held Saturday, 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church. He passed away on Wednesday, October 3rd, at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice. Memorials may be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Wayne V.F.W. Post #5291. Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.
Arland Elmer Aurich was born at his parents’ home in Stanton County on Jan. 29, 1926, the second child of Elmer and Martha (Dahlkoetter) Aurich, joining an older brother, Obert. He would later be joined by a younger sister, Lorna. He was baptized March 21, 1926 and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Beemer in 1941. He began helping his father on the farm while attending Beemer Public School. In October of 1950, Arland began his service in the U.S. Army and was a member of the 179th Infantry Regiment 45th Division serving overseas during the Korean Conflict. Upon receiving his honorable discharge in September 1952, he returned to Nebraska to resume farming with his father and brother until purchasing his own farm southeast of Winside. There he raised corn and beans and fed fat cattle and hogs.
On Sept. 16, 1967 Arland married his soul-mate and partner in life, Dorothy (Beyeler) Jorgensen. He was a brave man… choosing to fall in love with a woman who had five children between the ages of 17 and 21. With an instant family of five step-children, it wasn’t long before Arland became a grandfather and his 13 grandchildren will tell you they were blessed to have the best ‘Grandpa’ any child could ask for.
The Aurichs became members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in 1972, which would later become Our Savior Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on a farm southeast of Winside, until moving into Wayne in 1990. After retirement, Arland began doing woodworking and although he sold some of his work at craft sales, most of his masterpieces are functional possessions displayed proudly in the homes of his children and grandchildren. The couple moved to The Oaks in 2011 where they enjoyed playing Bingo and cards and spending time with the many friends there. Dorothy died in September of 2013 and Arland eventually moved to the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice to be closer to his daughter, Patricia (Jorgensen) Crosier, who would spoil him with vanilla milk shakes, orange candy slices and baked goods.
Arland was a member of the VFW Post 5291 and the 179th Infantry Division in Wayne.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce and Connie Jorgensen of Gold Canyon, AZ and Leon and Carolyn Jorgensen of Hot Springs Village, AR; two daughters, Patricia and Rick Crosier of Beatrice and Deanna and Emery Field of Bozeman, MT; a sister, Lorna Wegner of Omaha; a brother-in-law, Ken and Dotti Beyeler of Cody, WY.; a sister-in-law, Beverly (Beyeler) Esmeier of Yuma, Ariz; 13 grandchildren, Shelly (Kelly) Elliott, Randy (Tammy) Klein, Ruanne LaMarine, Inger (Michael) Povlich, Alicia (Chris) Beelendorf, Carmen (Mike) Emory, Theresa Klug, Shannon (Brian) Lininger, Nicole (Jeremy) Joy, Josh (Greta) Crosier, Jason (Sarah) Crosier, Clint (Traci) Field and Chad (Chelsey) Field; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-granchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy, in 2013; his parents and his brother, Obert Aurich; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra (Jorgensen) Klein and Donald M. Klein; five brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law.
