Youth Baseball Tournament Teams Open Spencer Slugfest Tournament

SPENCER, IA – Tri County League youth baseball teams from Wayne took a break from league play to open a weekend tournament with players from each of the White and Blue programs.

From Spencer, Iowa, the Wayne Didget, Bronco and Pony tournament teams participated in the Spencer Slugfest on Friday.

The Wayne Ponies suffered a 6-5 loss to Sergeant Bluff.

Sam Etter paced Wayne at the plate with a single, double, RBI and run scored as Gavin Anderson recorded a two-run homerun. Mason Heikes singled, drove in a run and scored; Drew Reinhardt singled and scored; Brody Munter singled and drove in a run as Austin Heiser singled.

Blade Nelson suffered the loss in an inning allowing four runs (three earned). Gavin Anderson started the opening two innings allowing one hit while striking out four batters as Reinhardt closed out the final inning allowing two runs while striking out two batters.

The Wayne Pony tournament team will next face the host Spencer at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

 

The Wayne Broncos began with a 6-5 victory to begin their tournament season.

In the win, Aiden Petersen tripled, drove in a run and scored while Blake Smith doubled and scored. William Patefield singled twice, drove in a run and scored; Carson Heiser singled, drove in a run and scored; Easton Endicott singled and scored as Kash Haase and Jaxon M. each accounted for a RBI.

Pitching stats recorded showed that Jaxon M. worked two innings (28 pitches) striking out three batters and walking one. (pitching stats not complete).

The Wayne Didgets suffered a 13-5 loss to the Badgers to begin their tournament season at 0-1.

During the loss, Brayden Wehrer doubled, drove in two runs and scored while Benjamin Patefield singled and scored twice. Mason Nelson singled; Merrick Miller accounted for a RBI and run scored; Zaven Jurgensen added a RBI as Sy Chase scored.

Harley Poland (28 pitches) suffered the loss in two-thirds allowing seven runs (six earned) off two hits while walking three batters. Wehrer (64) worked two innings allowing six runs (one earned) off two hits while striking out four batters and walking six. Dreu Jensen pitched an inning allowing two hits while striking out one batter and walking two.
