Wynot Wins Lewis & Clark Conference Tourney, Wakefield Places Third

PONCA – Tuesday’s Lewis & Clark Conference Volleyball Tourney format featured the consolation and finals round.

From Ponca, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge opened with Wakefield in a best two-of-three format for the third place match while Ponca competed against Wynot in the finals being a best three-of-five match.

Wakefield won in three sets over Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (27-25, 16-25, 25-18) to place third in the conference tourney and improve to 17-10 overall while LCC fell to 21-11.

Jordan Metzler posted a double-double with 20 set assists and 16 digs for Wakefield to go along with three kills; Daveigh Munter-McAfee recorded a team-high 10 kills and four digs, Alex Arenas added eight kills and 20 digs as Makenna Decker had eight kills and three digs. Aishah Valenzuela finished with a team-high 26 digs; Alice Brown tacked on five kills and two digs; Katie Borg totaled eight digs; Olivia Donner had eight set assists and four digs as Destiny Helzer added a kill and two digs.

Donner paced the team in service aces with two followed by Valenzuela and Borg each with an ace. Brown recorded three blocks (two solo) while Arenas, Decker and Jamila Al-Khafaji all had a block.

 

Wynot was crowned Lewis & Clark Conference volleyball champs with a four set victory over Ponca (21-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-22). The Blue Devils are now 18-9 and will next compete in the D2-5 Subdistrict Tournament with Chambers/Wheeler Central, Santee, St. Mary’s and Stuart while Ponca fell to 18-11 and will also be off until postseason Subdistrict Tourney play with Wakefield and LCC.

Wakefield will next close out their regular season on Thursday, October 21 during the Homer Triangular with Winnebago. LCC will be off until the C2-5 Subdistrict with Crofton, Hartington-Newcastle, Ponca and Wakefield.

Subdistrict pairings will officially be released on Thursday, October 21 for next Monday and Tuesday, October 25-26 matches.
