WSC Women’s Soccer Suffers 2-1 NSIC Home Loss

WAYNE – Home soccer began the weekend for Wayne State College during ‘Family Weekend’.

From the WSC Soccer Complex, the ‘Cats began NSIC play with Minnesota State-Mankato Friday.

Minnesota State built a 2-0 first half lead as WSC could only mange one goal in the final 45 minutes and suffered the 2-1 loss. Wayne State College fell to 0-3-1 (0-1 NSIC).

Molly Michaelson scored late in the second half (86:35) for Wayne State College as Maverick goals came in the 13th and 23rd minutes.

Michaelson scored her lone shot on goal while Megan Phillips placed two shots on goal. Morgan Rhodes and Delaney Kylee both placed their lone shot on goal as single shots came from Abby Sutton and Madison Kemp.

Katherine Hageman allowed two goals and recorded two saves in 90 minutes of work.

Minnesota State-Mankato outshot WSC, 13-7 but the ‘Cats had one more shot on goal being 5-4. The Mavericks also recorded seven corner kicks compared to one from Wayne State College.

Wayne State College will next host Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday, September 19 at 1 p.m.
