WAYNE – Following a shortened spring schedule for the Wayne State College women’s golf team, head coach Joey Baldwin had added to his 2021-22 signing class ahead of their fall season.
According to a release from the Wayne State Athletics office, two transfers will join the Wildcat women’s golf program for the upcoming season.
Viktoria Bortkiewicz-Hamelin from Montreal, Quebec Canada and Napatsorn “Mekky” Winyarat of Bangkok, Thailand join Abbigail Brodersen from Albion as members of the 2021-22 Wildcat recruiting class.
Coach Baldwin states he is very excited to welcome Viktoria and Mekky to the WSC golf program as both players are very dedicated and extremely hard workers on the golf course and in the classroom. They are international players who have both played college golf and will bring experience to the team. Coach Baldin believes they will have an immediate impact on the team and knows they will do great things at WSC.
Bortkiewicz-Hamelin is a transfer from Dawson College in Montreal and will have three years of eligibility with the Wildcats. She was named golf team MVP and had an 83-scoring average in her one season at Dawson.
Winyarat is a transfer from Dodge City Community College in Kansas and will have two years of eligibility with the Wildcats. She was named Female Athlete of the Year in 2020 after notching one individual tournament title, one team title and a hole-in-one in the COVID shortened season. Winyarat had an average score of 79 at Dodge City that ranked 26th nationally while helping the Conquistadors to a #19 national ranking in the 2020 season.
The Wayne State College women’s golf program is scheduled to open the 2021 fall season on September 7-8 at the Central Region Preview in Blue Springs, Missouri. Along with other fall competitions in St. Paul, Minnesota (Sept. 20 – 21); Marshall, Minnesota (Sept. 25 – 26) and Warrensburg, Missouri (Oct. 18 – 19), the team will also compete in a Nebraska Invite held at the Norfolk Country Club on Friday and Saturday, October 8 – 9.
