WSC Volleyball Earns #24 Ranking In Preseason AVCA Coaches Poll

WAYNE – After ending the final 2019 AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll rated #13, the Wayne State College volleyball team remains inside the preseason rankings.

According to a release from the Wayne State Athletics office, WSC is ranked 24th in the 2021 Preseason AVCA Division II top 25 Coaches Poll released earlier this week by the coaches association.

WSC finished the 2019 season with a 24-7 record and #13 national ranking in the final regular season poll in December of 2019. The 2020 volleyball season was canceled due to COVID-19.

WSC earned 196 points in preseason voting.

The Wayne State College volleyball team is one of five teams from the Northern Sun Conference ranked in the Preseason Top 25 poll with five other teams receiving votes.

They include #2 Concordia-St. Paul with nine first place votes (969 points); #7 Minnesota Duluth (684 pts); #15 Northern State (440 pts) and #16 St. Cloud State (376 pts). Winona State (123 pts); Southwest Minnesota State (89 pts); Augustana University (48 pts); Upper Iowa (25 pts) and Minnesota State-Mankato (9 pts) were all receiving votes and listed on two or more ballots.

The Wildcats open the 2021 season on Friday, September 3 facing Westminster (Utah) at 11:30 a.m. and the host Dallas Baptist at 7 p.m. in the Dallas Baptist Tournament in Texas. WSC will also face Arkansas Tech at 11 a.m. and Eastern New Mexico at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 4.

Another preseason tournament will include the Colorado Premier Tournament on Friday, September 10 against Lewis (Ill) at 11 a.m. and Western Washington at 2:30 p.m. in Denver, Colorado with games also scheduled for Saturday, September 11.

The 2021 NSIC opener for Wayne State College will be at Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State on Friday, September 17 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, September 18 at 1 p.m. The ‘Cats will host Sioux Falls at 6 p.m. from Rice Auditorium on Tuesday, September 21 for their home opener.
