VERMILLION, SD – An eight-meet schedule concluded this past weekend for the Wayne State College women’s and men’s track & field team.

According to a release from the Wayne State Athletics Office, WSC sent athletes to the USD Tune-Up in Vermillion, South Dakota on Friday, May 7.

Junior thrower Mckenzie Scheil placed fifth in the weight throw and 10th in the shot put to lead the Wayne State College. The meet attracted seven Division I teams and 15 other schools from NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA ranks.

Scheil collected a fifth-place mark in the hammer throw at 194’ 7 ½” and later placed 10th in the shot put at 43’ 5”.

Nicole Heeren recorded an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw at 175’ 10 ¼” with Jadin Wagner was ninth at 175’ 6 ½”.

Other top 10 finishes for the Wildcats came from Riana Noelle in the triple jump (34’ 10 ½”) and Annie McCartney came in 10th place in the javelin throw at 97’ 10”.

 

Senior Dylan Kaup and freshman Collin Kotz had the top finishes for the Wayne State men Friday afternoon and evening at the USD Tune-up Outdoor Track and Field held in Vermillion, South Dakota.

Kaup had a sixth place finish in the hammer throw at 191’ 10 ½” while Kotz earned a sixth place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:47.03.

Senior Cole Christoffersen took seventh in the hammer (186’ 8 ¼”).

Eighth place finishes were recorded by Cody Crosley in the long jump (21’ 6”), Dylan Kneifl in the high jump (6’ 3 ¼”) and Ben Allen in the shot put (52’ 4 ½”).

Will McGonigal was 10th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:15.56) while Preston Davis was 11th in the 400 meter hurdles (57.16) and Noah Lilly came in 11th in the 110 meter high hurdles in 15.51 seconds.

The Wayne State College women’s and men’s track & field team will next compete at the Northern Sun Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Duluth, Minnesota Thursday, Friday and Saturday May 13, 14 and 15.
