LINCOLN, NE/VERMILLION, SD – Members with the Wayne State College women’s and men’s track & field team competed in two different meets over the weekend.
According to a release from the Wayne State Athletics office, track & field athletes took part in both the Frank Sevigne/Husker Invite in Lincoln Friday and the Dakota Alumni Reality Meet hosted by the University of South Dakota in Vermillion Saturday.
For the Wildcat women, sophomore Mckenzie Scheil posted NCAA provisional marks in the weight throw and shot put.
Scheil started her weekend taking third in the weight throw at the Husker Invite with a mark of 61’ 1 ½”. Saturday in Vermillion, she won the weight throw at 62’ 2” and later took second in the shot put with a mark of 47’ ¼”. Scheil’s effort in the weight throw now ranks fourth in NCAA Division II while her NCAA provisional mark in the shot put now sits 13th in NCAA Division II.
Junior Kenzie Sullivan had a solid day Saturday, taking second in the weight throw (56’ 7 ½”) and fifth in the shot put at 45’ 6 ½”, an NCAA provisional mark.
Sophomore sprinter Jordyn Pester collected a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (1:00.21), Ali Dykman cleared 5’ 2 ½” to place eighth in the high jump with Hanna Lazure right behind in ninth at 5’ ¾”.
Sophomore Mikayla Marvin finished 10th in the pole vault clearing 11’ 2 ¼”.
Throwers of Cade Kalkowski and Dylan Kaup shined in the weight throw for the Wildcat men’s indoor track and field teams this weekend.
Kalkowski posted back-to-back season best marks in the weight throw, placing fifth Friday in Lincoln with a mark of 65’ 3 ½” and followed that performance with another season-best mark of 66’ 1 ¾” Saturday to take first place in the event. Kalkowski’s throws were NCAA provisional marks and his mark Saturday at USD now ranks him sixth in NCAA Division II.
Kaup notched an eighth-place mark Friday in Lincoln at 61’ 9 ¾” and produced a best throw of 61’ 10 ¼” Saturday in Vermillion to take second overall.
Other Wildcat top performers Saturday included Aaron English tied for sixth in the high jump and Preston Davis recorded an 11th place finish in the 400-meter dash in 53.83 seconds.
The Wayne State College women’s and men’s indoor track & field team will next be in action on Friday, February 14 at the Concordia Invite in Seward.
