YANKTON, SD – With the NSIC Championships slated for early November in Wayne, the Wayne State College women’s and men’s cross country program returned to competition this past weekend.

From Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton, South Dakota, WSC participated in the Mount Marty Invite on October 22.

The Wildcat women placed seventh with 194 points while the WSC men took fifth with 174 points.

Sioux Falls captured the women’s team title with 34 points followed by Dordt in second at 44.  Northwestern of Iowa (81), Concordia (Neb.) (98) and Morningside (144) closed out the top five teams.  Dickinson State was sixth with 177 points with Wayne State seventh at 194.  Dakota State (219), host Mount Marty (275), Briar Cliff (311) and Peru State (333) closed out the team scoring.

Norfolk junior Alison Stineman was the top Wildcat finisher for the women taking 24th overall out of a field of 148 runners in a time of 19:39.95 on the 5,000-meter course.

Kelsey Larsen was next in 38th place at 19:59.21 with sophomore Kylie Pachta 58th overall at 20:51.73.

Three WSC freshmen finished next with Madeline Kunz 70th at 21:20, Sydney Escritt 71st in 21:22 and Ava McGown 72nd with a time of 21:28.

Other WSC runners were Jozlyn Barnes (78th – 21:35), Maelee Beacom (79th – 21:40), Kenzie Mosel (94th – 22:03) and Faith Polacek (103rd – 22:22).


Dordt edged Sioux Falls 28-38 to win the men’s team title with Concordia (Neb.) in third at 86.  Dakota State was fourth at 124 points with the Wildcats claiming fifth with their 174 point team score.

Dickinson State and Mount Marty tied for sixth at 200 points with Northwestern (Iowa) eighth at 213, William Penn ninth (225) and Morningside 10th (261) with Briar Cliff (309) and Peru State (343) closing out the team scoring.

Springview junior Brandon Mundorf posted a 10th place finish out of a field of 145 runners with a time of 25:35.74 on the 8,000-meter course. Freshman Quentin Dreyer followed in 29th place at 27:07.11 with junior Abe Schroeder 41st in 27:31.95.

Other Wildcat finishers were Brandon Mitzel 66th at 28:24.94, Andrew Wylie 103rd in 30:16.95 and Gabe Peitz 123rd with a time of 31:47.24.

The Wayne State College women’s and men’s cross country team will next host the NSIC Championships on Saturday, November 5. Men’s race is scheduled for 10 a.m. with the women’s race to follow at 11:15 a.m. from the Wayne Country Club.
