WSC Cross Country Results From Morningside Invite

MCCOOK LAKE, SD – During the second collegiate race of the season for the Wildcat women’s and men’s cross country team, both teams earned a top five finish while the men had an induvial champion and the women a top five result.

Wayne State College competed in the Morningside Invitational Cross Country Meet held at the Adams Nature Preserve in McCook Lake, South Dakota last Friday.

According to a release from the Wayne State Athletics office, senior Allie Rosener placed fifth overall to help the Wayne State College women’s cross country team to a third place finish.

On the men’s side, Will McGonigal was the top individual finisher while leading Wayne State College to a second place team finish.

In the women’s division, Concordia (Neb.) won the team title over host Morningside 29-40 with Wayne State third at 67 points. Mount Marty (118) and Iowa Western CC (130) closed out the team standings.

Rosener, a senior from Newcastle (Hartington/Newcastle Public HS), came in fifth place overall out of 53 runners with a time of 19:19 over 5,000 meters. Yankton sophomore Brooke Solomon was the next Wildcat finisher taking 10th place in 19:53.

Norfolk sophomore Alison Stineman came in 16th place at 20:34 with Kelsey Larsen taking 23rd in 21:18.

Other Wildcat runners were Kylie Pachta 30th at 21:52 and Marin Jetensky 38th at 22:36.


Among the men’s division, Concordia (Neb.) topped Wayne State 43-53 for the men’s team title followed by Morningside in third place at 63 points. Southeast CC (99), Mount Marty (127), Dakota Wesleyan (152) and Iowa Wesleyan (191) closed out the team standings.

McGonigal, a sophomore from Hailey, Idaho, crossed the finish line on the 8,000-meter course first out of a field of 70 runners with a time of 25:19, just under 20 seconds ahead of second place Camden Sesna of Concordia.

Senior Brock Hegarty claimed a top 10 finish by coming in seventh overall at 26:53 while Brandon Mundorf just missed a top 10 finish taking 11th at 27:20.

Other Wildcat runners included Abe Schroeder (24th – 27:55), Bryce Holcomb (30th – 28:40), Brandon Mitzel (31st – 28:44), Nathan Hiemer (32nd – 28:45) and Dawsonn Lawver (51st – 29:57).

The Wayne State College women’s and men’s cross country team will next host the Wildcat Classic on Friday, September 24 at the Wayne Country Club starting at 4 p.m.
