Wisner-Pilger Sweeps LCC On Parent’s Night, Gator Boys Win At Buzzer

WISNER – As the regular season comes to an end for several girls basketball teams this week, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge teams took to the road Thursday night.

From Wisner-Pilger Public Schools, the Gators entertained LCC during parent’s night for Wisner-Pilger.

In the girls game, both teams combined for 60 foul shots and five players fouling out of the game as Wisner-Pilger held on for the 47-39 victory. The Gators improve to 5-17 on the season while LCC fell to 11-10.

Wisner-Pilger used a pair of 12-point quarters to lead 24-18 at half. LCC then tied the game up at 28 thanks to a 10-4 third quarter before the Gators won the fourth quarter scoring, 19-11.

Emma Heller paced Wisner-Pilger in scoring with 12 points while Lindsey Kneifl added 11 points and both finished 5-11 from the foul line. Macy Stuhr scored nine points, Karrin Jindra fouled out with seven points and Adi Meyer tallied five points. Aspin Waterman also fouled out with three points.

The Gators went 10-14 from the foul line in the fourth to finish the game at 14-29.

For LCC, Haley Christensen poured in 15 points (7-12 FT) while Makayla Forsberg and Kinsey Hall both fouled out with seven points. Delaney Ehlers fouled out with four points, Erica Wolfgram also scored four points as Jordynn Urwiler and Cassie Granquist both scored a point.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge shot 19-31 from the charity stripe in the game.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge will next visit Summerland (Orchard) on Friday, February 14 while Wisner-Pilger will be off until Monday, February 17 taking on #4 Homer at 7 p.m. from Pender High School during the C2-4 Subdistrict Tournament. The Gators are the #5 seed.

 

From the boys game, Wisner-Pilger’s Colby Heller passed the ball in-bounds with 5.1 seconds remaining in the game and got the ball back to score at the buzzer to win 57-55 over LCC. The Gators improve to 14-8 while Laurel-Concord-Coleridge saw their six-game winning streak snapped falling to 18-5.

LCC led after the first 16-10 before Wisner-Pilger tied the game back up at 26 all going into half. The Gators then took a 42-39 lead entering the fourth quarter as LCC outscored Wisner-Pilger 16-15 in the fourth but lost on a last-second shot.

Heller finished with 18 points as Cole Jacobsen added 10 points. Regan Bellar and Dylan Kneifl (7-9 FT) both scored nine points, Caden Schweers poured in eight points and Justin Pieper tacked on three points.

The Gators shot 10-17 from the foul line.

Double figure leaders for LCC were Noah Schutte with 26 points and Ty Erwin scoring 16 points. Cael Hartung added six points, Evan Haisch finished with five points and Evan Schmitt scored two points.

The Bears finished 12-18 from the foul line.

LCC will join their girls team Friday night while the Wisner-Pilger boys will next visit Madison on Friday, February 21.
