Winside Wrestling Places Fourth, Tri County NE 10th During Newman Grove Invite

NEWMAN GROVE – Several high school wrestling teams took part in a post-holiday invitational where the Winside Wildcats were back on the mat.

From Newman Grove Public Schools, 13 teams were in action which included a couple of JV teams.

Central City won the invite with 275 points followed by Boone Central/Newman Grove in second with 259 points. Norfolk JV 1 placed third with 157 points, Winside finished fourth with 132 points and Centura rounded out the top five teams with 72 points.

Other team scoring came from Fremont JV (sixth – 47), High Plains (seventh – 45), Nebraska Christian (eighth – 31), Madison (ninth – 30), Tri County Northeast (10th – 22), Cedar Bluffs (11th – 21), St. Mary’s (12th – 9) and Niobrara/Verdigre (13th – 7).

Winside was led by Gabe Escalante (145) who won his weight class while Jacoby Mann (126), Maddox Magwire (132), Art Escalante (138) and Mason Topp (182) all finished runner-up. Tyler Carlson (152) came in third as Cooper Behmer (113) placed fifth.

 

For Tri County Northeast: Brody Koopman (220) placed third, Cole Verzani (160) took seventh as Gabe Reinert (138) and Zach Shanks (285) both finished eighth.

 

The Winside Wildcat wrestlers will next entertain Guardian Angels Central Catholic during a home dual on Thursday, January 7 at 6 p.m.
