WINNEBAGO – With the high school moratorium coming up this weekend, the Winside Wildcat wrestling team took to the road for a triangular before closing out the pre-break with a tournament.
From Winnebago High School Tuesday night, Winside joined Ponca for a road triangular.
In the dual with Ponca, Winside held on for the 54-30 win.
Wildcat match wins came from Koby Ellis (120) over Sam Taylor by fall (:44), Gabe Escalante (126) won by fall over Garrett James (:44) and Michael Jensen (195) won by fall over Matt Logue (1:44). Winside also won 106/113/138/145/152/160 by forfeit.
Ponca wins: 182/220/285 won by forfeit
Dalton Anderson (132) won by fall over Matthew Frederick (3:54)
Hunter Bennett (170) won by fall over Casey North (3:19)
From the match against the host Indians, Winside won the final seven matches to win 63-18.
Wildcat wins saw Alex Carlson (152) win by TB-1 (8-5) over Jeremy Bear, Jensen (195) won by fall over Lucian DeCora (:21), Gabe Escalante (126) won by fall over Antonio Robles (5:26) and Frederick (132) won by fall over Matthew McDonald (2:46). Winside also won 160/170/106/113/120/138/145 by forfeit.
In the third match, Winnebago defeated Ponca (35-21).
Contested match wins for Ponca came from Andrew Daly (195) over Lucian DeCora by fall (:29) and Michael Logue (220) won by decision (2-0) over Robbie Lovejoy.
Winside will next compete in the Archbishop Bergan Tournament on Friday, December 21 starting at 10 a.m.
