NORTH BEND – After securing a pair of top five invite finishes the past couple weeks, the Winside wrestlers were back in action over the weekend.
From North Bend Central Public Schools, the Wildcats joined 13 other teams during the NBC Invite.
David City Aquinas Catholic stole the show with 296 points, followed by Logan View in second with 183.5 points, Pierce placed third with 168 points, Winside came in fourth with 88 points and Tri County rounded out the top five teams with 83 points.
The host, North Bend Central (sixth – 72), Arlington (seventh – 66), Louisville (eighth – 57), Freeman (ninth – 53), Winnebago (10th – 48), Johnson County Central (11th – 33), Shelby-Rising City (12th – 31), Lincoln Christian (13th – 27) and Cedar Bluffs (14th – 13).
Winside was led by Cayden Ellis (120) who won his weight class while Art Escalante (138) finished runner-up. Mason Topp (182) came in third and Jacoby Mann (126) took fourth.
Pierce had an individual champion from Zander Schweitzer (182) while Brock Bolling (126), Ashton Schweitzer (160) and Michael Kruntorad (170) all placed runner-up. Zakary Abler (106), Blake Bolling (138) and Jaden Jones (195) all finished third as Isaiah Adams (120) took fourth.
The Winside wrestlers will return to the mat on Tuesday, December 15 during a home triangular welcoming in Tri County Northeast (Allen/Emerson-Hubbard) and Winnebago starting at 5:30 p.m. The Wildcats will also host a quadrangular on Thursday, December 17 at 5:30 p.m. with Quad County Northeast (Randolph/LCC), Pender and Stanton as the Wayne Invite is scheduled for Saturday, December 19.
