Winside Wins Home Wrestling Invite, Crown Six Champions

WINSIDE – For the second time in three days the Winside Wildcat wrestlers were on their home mat welcoming in 13 teams during the Winside Invite.

From Winside Public Schools the Wildcats won the 52nd annual Wrestling Invite with 163 points.

Pierce JV followed in runner-up with 146 points, GACC placed third with 114 points as Pender and Quad County Northeast (LCC/Randolph) tied for fourth with 113 points each.

Other team scoring went to Osmond (sixth – 90), HCC (seventh – 86), Ponca (eighth – 80), Winnebago (ninth – 72), Millard North JV (T-10th – 24), Tri County Northeast (Allen/Emerson-Hubbard (T-10th – 24), Niobrara/Verdigre (12th – 21), St. Mary’s (13th – 14) and Riverside (14th – 4).

 

Winside was led by Cooper Behmer (113), Cayden Ellis (120), Jacoby Mann (126), Art Escalante (138), Gabe Escalante (145) and Mason Topp (182) all who won their weight class. Maddox Magwire (132) placed third.

Pender: Layne Sturek (106) won his weight class, Matthew Ferris (113) and Colton Sanderson (220) both placed second as Chase Hofmeister (138) took third. Trey Johnson (126), Zachery Randall (152), Jacob Bruns (182) and Andrew Duncan (195) all finished fourth

Quad County NE: Tie Hollandsworth (152) and Kolby Casey (220) both won their weight class while Sutton Ehlers (160), Trace Naeve (170) and Fischer Carson (285) all placed third.

HCC: Keegan Carl (106), Kerby Hochstein (132), Conner Hochstein (145) and Kyle Lemme (170) all placed second.

Ponca: Dalton Anderson (132) and Hunter Bennett (170) won their respective weight classes while Brady Carnell (126) and Matt Logue (195) both placed second.

Tri County NE: Hudson Morgan (113) placed fourth.

 

The Winside wrestling program will next compete in a road quadrangular hosted by Scribner-Snyder on Tuesday, January 12 at 5:30 p.m. BRLD and Wisner-Pilger will also attend.
