Winside Volleyball Splits Road Triangular

O’NEILL – The Winside volleyball team competed in their first of seven scheduled triangulars Tuesday evening.

The host was St. Mary’s of O’Neill who also featured Winside and Plainview.

The Wildcats first dropped a three-set match to the host St. Mary’s (21-25, 25-15, 25-19) before sweeping Plainview (25-13, 25-11). Winside is now 4-2 on the season as in the middle match St. Mary’s swept Plainview to improve to 4-0 as the Pirates fell to 0-3.

In the three-set loss to St. Mary’s, Andi Bargstadt paced Winside with six kills and 12 digs while Brooklyn Beemer added five kills, nine set assists and five digs. McKenna Russel recorded a team-high 13 set assists to go along with eight digs. Jackie Escalante tacked on seven digs and three service aces (Russell: three).

From the sweep over Plainview, Bargstadt again was the team leader in kills with eight and second in the dig department with five. Russell tallied a team-high 11 set assist and four service aces right behind the five of Escalante who led the team with six digs. Hope Cummins was second in kills with five as Behmer added four kills and six assists.

The Winside volleyball team will next host Elkhorn Valley and Wausa during a triangular on Thursday, September 5.
