Winside Volleyball Ends Losing Streak, Enters Conference Tourney With Pool Play Bye

NIOBRARA – With the Lewis & Clark Volleyball Tournament beginning this weekend, the Winside Wildcat volleyball team took to the road to close out their regular season Thursday.

Winside visited Niobrara/Verdigre and secured a four-set victory (25-11, 25-19, 19-25, 25-14). The Wildcats had a five-match losing streak come to an end and are now 11-11 on the season while Niobrara/Verdigre fell to 2-9.

Brooklyn Behmer recorded a double-double with 17 set assists and 14 digs to go along with seven kills and three service aces for Winside. Kati Topp posted a team-high 14 kills while adding five digs, three aces and three solo blocks; McKenna Russell had 15 set assists, seven digs and four kills as Ashelyn Abler led the team in digs with 21 (five aces). Jaden Rastede came away with five kills, three solo blocks, two set assists and a dig; Jackie Escalante tallied seven kills, nine digs along with an assist, an ace and solo block; Micah Stenwall had a kill, ace and dig as Hannah Gubbels finished with six digs.

The Winside Wildcats earned a top four seed and will face the winner of Pool B (Hartington-Newcastle, Creighton or Wakefield) on Monday, October 19 in Laurel.
