Winside Suffers Subdistrict Final Loss

WYNOT – Tuesday night’s Subdistrict championship match featured a rematch from the Lewis & Clark Conference third place contest a week ago.

From Wynot Public Schools, #1 Wynot hosted #3 Winside during the D2-5 Subdistrict.

After a quick opening set, Wynot had a tough time putting away Winside in the final two sets. The Blue Devils secured the 3-0 sweep (25-10, 28-26, 25-21) advancing to a district final at 17-4 as Winside ended their season at 13-14.

Kati Topp recorded a team-high eight kills to go along with eight digs and three solo blocks while Hope Cummins paced the team in digs with 13 as she added seven kills and three aces for Winside. Brooklyn Behmer tallied six kills, 12 set assists and eight digs; McKenna Russel had 10 set assists and eight digs as Jaden Rastede finished with four solo blocks and five digs. Other dig leaders came from Hannah Gubbels with eight, Jackie Escalante had seven and Ashelyn Abler totaled six.

District final competition is set for Saturday as the 2020 NSAA State Volleyball Championships will take place from the Pinnacle Bank Arena on Wednesday, November 4 – Saturday, November 7. A limit of 4,000 seats will be available per session as face coverings will be required.

C2-4: #1 BRLD won in five sets over #2 Pender (25-21, 16-25, 25-8, 25-27, 19-17)

C2-5: #3 Crofton won in four sets over #1 Ponca (25-17, 16-25, 25-21, 25-19)

D1-3: #1 Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family defeated #3 Tri County Northeast (Allen/Emerson-Hubbard) in four sets (25-13, 25-23, 19-25, 26-24)

D1-4: #3 Hartington-Newcastle swept #1 Hartington Cedar Catholic (25-18, 25-21, 27-25)
