HOMER – Over the next seven matches, including Tuesday night’s road triangular, the Winside volleyball team will only have one home match.
From Homer, the Wildcats joined the host Class C2 Knights and Class D1 Osmond to begin their road quest.
Winside suffered a loss in straight sets to Osmond (20-25, 16-25) but swept Homer (25-21, 25-17) to snap a four match losing streak. Winside is now 2-9 on the season.
In the loss to Osmond, Micah Stenwall led Winside with three kills and eight digs while Natalie Kruger finished with two kills, three set assists and eight digs. McKenna Russell paced the team in set assists with six to go along with nine digs and one kill; Hannah Gubbels recorded a team-high 12 digs and one kill as Carsan Brogren had two kills and two digs. Randee Haase also finished with three solo blocks.
From the victory over Homer, Natalie Kruger paced the team in kills with five to go along with a stat line of three digs, two service aces and two assists while Russell had seven set assists, eight digs and three kills. Carsan Brogren finished with three kills and eight digs, Stenwall had nine digs, three set assists, one kill and one set assist as Haase again had three solo blocks.
Winside will next visit Bloomfield on Thursday, September 16 before hosting Walthill on Monday, September 20. The Wildcats will also have road matches at Wausa (9/21), Pender (9/27) and Winnebago (9/30).
