CLEARWATER – Thursday night marked another top five team finish for the Winside wrestling program after the team took third in the Creighton Invite last week.
From Clearwater Public School, the co-op team of Summerland (Clearwater, Ewing and Orchard) hosted 11 other wrestling programs during the Summerland Bobcat Invite.
O’Neill won the invite with 195.5 points, ahead of runner-up Winside who tallied 109.5 points, Howells-Dodge placed third with 68 points, the host Summerland finished fourth with 66 points and Palmer rounded out the top five teams with 63 points.
Other team results saw Hartington Cedar Catholic (sixth – 56), Elgin Public/Pope John (seventh – 52), Osmond (eighth – 51), Fullerton (ninth – 48), Lutheran High Northeast (10th – 39), St. Mary’s (11th – 27) and Niobrara/Verdigre (12th – 12).
Six of the seven Winside wrestlers placed top three as invite champions went to Cayden Ellis (120); Jacoby Mann (126); Art Escalante (138) and Mason Topp (182). Cooper Behmer (113) finished runner-up while Gabe Escalante (145) took third. Zak Bilstein (285) finished seventh.
The Winside wrestling program will next compete in the North Bend Invite Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
