Winside, Pender Both Qualify Three Individuals For State Wrestling

PLAINVIEW/GREELEY – Two Class D wrestling programs closed out district competition Saturday in different locations.

Winside ended the weekend eighth with 82 points during the Class D-2 District in Greeley hosted by Central Valley while Pender placed ninth with 61 points in Plainview at the D-1 District.

Howells-Dodge was crowned D-2 district champions with 136 points, while Palmer placed second with 112 points and East Butler took third with 91.5 points.

Winside: Cayden Ellis (113) and Gabe Escalante (138) were crowned district champions while Art Escalante (132) placed third.

The host Plainview won the D-1 district with 230.5 points, followed by Neligh-Oakdale in second with 147.5 points and Burwell finished third with 124 points.

Pender: Braxton Volk (113) finished third as well as Zachery Randall (152) and Eric Hathaway (285) placed fourth.

The 2020 NSAA State Individual Wrestling Championships are scheduled for Thursday, February 20 – Saturday, February 22 in Omaha.
