Winside Finishes 2-1 In Randolph Quad

RANDOLPH – Following a season-opening home victory, the Winside volleyball team began a series of road matches during a weekend quadrangular.

From Randolph, the Cardinals welcomed in Winside, Howells-Dodge and Hartington-Newcastle on Saturday.

Winside began with a loss in straight sets to Howells-Dodge (25-12, 25-14) before winning back-to-back three-set matches over Hartington-Newcastle (25-21, 20-25, 25-21) and Randolph (25-13, 22-25, 25-17). The Wildcats are now 3-1 on the season and will next visit St. Mary’s of O’Neill on Tuesday, August 30 during a road triangular along with Plainview.

During the loss to Howells-Dodge, Anslee Watters recorded five kills and three digs while Hannah Gubbels added two kills, four digs and a service ace. Natalie Kruger led the team in set assists with eight and had three digs, a kill and one service ace; Micah Stenwall had three digs, one kill and a solo block; Randee Haase had one kill and one dig; Aubrey Russel accounted for a dig and three solo blocks as Samantha Gubbels had a dig.

In the victory over Hartington-Newcastle, Watters recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs to go along with two aces and a solo block; Kruger finished with 22 set assists, three digs, two aces, a solo block and two kills while Hannah Gubbels finished with a team-high 14 digs to go along with five kills and a service ace.

Russell tallied six kills, three digs, two aces and three solo blocks; Stenwall had three kills, an ace and a dig; Haase tacked on a kill, two solo blocks, a dig and an ace; Samantha Gubbels had five digs as Jerzi Carlson accounted for four digs.

From the win 2-1 victory over the host Randolph, Watters secured another double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs while also recording three solo blocks; Haase followed with seven kills, four solo blocks and a dig as Kruger added 22 set assists, three digs, an ace and a kill.

Russell finished with four kills, five service aces, a dig and four solo blocks; Hannah Gubbels had three kills, four aces and six digs while other digs came from Carlson (five), Stenwall (four) and Samantha Gubbels (three).
