Winside Drops Two Home Triangular Matches

WINSIDE – With three home triangular matches on the schedule for Winside, the Wildcats welcomed in two opponents Thursday night.

Class D2 Winside hosted Class C2 Elkhorn Valley and Class D1 Wausa during the triangular.

Winside suffered a loss in straight sets to Elkhorn Valley (24-26, 21-25) and dropped a three-match set to Wausa (21-25, 25-22, 14-25). Winside is now 3-5 on the season.

The third match favored Elkhorn Valley over Wausa (25-17, 25-22).

In the loss against Elkhorn Valley, Anslee Watters recorded seven kills, nine digs, two solo blocks and a service ace; Natalie Kruger added a double-double with 12 set assists and 10 digs to go along with three kills and an ace while Hannah Gubbels finished with a team-high 13 digs and a kill.

Micah Stenwall tacked on three kills, three digs and a solo block; Randee Haase had three kills and a dig; Aubrey Russell tallied six service aces, four digs, a kill and solo block; Jerzi Carlson had five digs and two aces as Samantha Gubbels closed the match with three digs.

From the loss with Wausa, Watters finished with nine kills and 12 digs; Kruger added 16 set assists, six digs, three service aces, a solo block and a kill as Hannah Gubbels led the team in digs with 18 and also had an ace and a kill.

Haase recorded seven kills, two solo blocks and two digs; Russell followed with five kills, two digs, three solo blocks and an ace; Carlson had 10 digs and an ace while other digs came from Samantha Gubbels (seven) and Stenwall (three).

The Winside volleyball team will next visit Wynot on Tuesday, September 6.
