Winnebago Boys Basketball Standout Transfers To South Dakota State

BROOKINGS, SD – A former member of a NSAA Boys State Basketball Championship team has transferred closer to the Midwest.

David Wingett played for the Winnebago Indians from (2013-2017) where his team made three straight trips to the state tourney which included a C1 state title in 2015 along with a C2 third place in 2016 and C1 third in 2017. The Indians also made one more appearance at state in 2018 placing runner-up

The Winnebago grad will sit out during the 2019-20 season due to transfer rules but will have four years of eligibility remaining at South Dakota State.

SDSU made three consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament from 2015-18 before competing in the NIT this past year falling to the NIT Champions Texas in the first round (79-73).

The Jackrabbits went 24-9 overall and 14-2 in the Summit League finishing first during the regular season but lost in the quarterfinals to #8 Western Illinois (79-76) in their conference tournament.

During his high school career, David Wingett averaged 20.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. He finished his career at Winnebago top five in scoring in Nebraska prep history with more than 2,300 points.

Prior to signing with SDSU Wingett spent a postgraduate year at Bull City Prep Academy in Durham, North Carolina and then signed with Division I Memphis last May.

At Bull City, Wingett averaged 25.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game.

With the Tigers, Wingett appeared in four games scoring a season-high two points against Tennessee Tech during a season-high 13 minutes. He received a medical redshirt after suffering a season-ending injury.
