Wildcats Use Late Goal To Record Fourth Draw Of Season

WAYNE – Both goals were scored in the second half of Friday afternoon’s Wayne Sate College women’s soccer match.

From the WSC Soccer Complex, the Wildcats welcomed in Southwest Minnesota State University.

Thanks to a late goal for Wayne State, the game ended in a 1-1 draw. WSC is now 1-5-4 (1-3-3 NSIC) while SMSU moves to 1-3-6 (1-3-3 NSIC).

Southwest Minnesota State first scored in the 56th minute (55:52) followed by Christina Marlow of WSC in the 83rd minute (82:57) off an assist by Payton Haliburton to force the 1-1 tie.

Marlow scored on her lone shot attempt of the match as Skylar Stueckrath, Abby Sutton, Reagan Allen and Riann Daas all placed one of two shots on goal.

Annika Syvrud, Leah Bennett and Haliburton added a shot on goal as other shot attempts came from Paige Pemberton, Kaelyn Reeves and Haley Hoffman all with one.

Hayden Wallace allowed one goal and recorded seven saves in 90 minutes of work in goal.

Wayne State outshot SMSU, 15-9 (both teams with eights shots on goal) as the Mustangs recorded four corner kicks compared to three by WSC.

The Wayne State College women’s soccer team will next host Sioux Falls on Sunday, October 2 at 1 p.m.
