WAYNE – Members of the Wayne State College women’s and men’s outdoor track & field team as well as softball and baseball individuals were honored Wednesday for their academics.
In a release from the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota, 698 student-athletes have earned NSIC All-Academic Team honors for the 2018 Spring athletic season.
To be eligible for this honor, the student-athlete must be a member of the varsity traveling team and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. Furthermore, the athlete must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at her/his institution (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution.
In total, 34 Wildcat athletes made up the list. 12 being from the men’s outdoor track & field team, followed by nine members of the baseball team, seven from softball and six from the women’s outdoor track & field team.
Baseball: senior David Janes, senior Spencer Johnson, senior Adam Poldberg, senior Dalton Smith, junior Gabe Hoogers, junior Jordan Mehl, junior Kyle Thompson, sophomore Jake Lemar and sophomore Lawson Zenner.
Softball: senior Jordyn Breitbarth, senior Rachel Shumaker, senior Katelyn Wobken, junior Abbie Hix, junior Riley Vanderveen, sophomore Allison Niemeier and sophomore Jenna Stewart.
Men’s TF: senior Allen Arauz, senior Antoine Bardou, senior Derek Lahm, senior Brandon Marker, senior Brady Metz, junior Kole Heller, junior Jayle Hinkle, junior Matthew Nemec, junior Robert Sullivan, junior Richard Sweeney, sophomore Dylan Kaup and sophomore Nathan Pearson.
Women’s TF: graduate Mary Alderson, senior Michaela Dendinger, senior Tessa Ives, junior Morgan Shearer, sophomore Tia Jones and sophomore Josephine Peitz.
