Wildcats Swept At Minnesota State-Mankato, Looking To Build Momentum Into Conference Tourney

MANKATO, MN – Friday night opened a rematch weekend for the Wayne State College volleyball team after hosting a pair of Minnesota teams in September, WSC hit to the road.

On September 14 & 15 the ‘Cats entertained Concordia-St. Paul (0-3) and Minnesota State-Mankato (3-2). Now flipping the dates, WSC was in Mankato, Minnesota to first battle the Mavericks.

Minnesota State-Mankato split the season series with a home sweep over WSC (25-21, 25-22, 25-23). The Mavericks are now 17-10 (10-9 NSIC) as WSC fell to 21-8 (12-7) NSIC.

Alyssa Ballenger and Katie Stephens were both limited to seven kills, Jaci Brahmer followed with six kills and four blocks (one solo) as Tarrin Beller tacked on four kills and three blocks (two solo). Megan Gebhardt tallied 24 set assists and 11 digs for a double-double as Haley Kauth posted a team-high 12 digs with Maddie Duffy right behind at 11 digs.

Both Duffy and Ballenger came away with three service aces, Beller recorded two aces and one from Morgan Alexander.

Minnesota State-Mankato outhit WSC, .250 to .130 while the ‘Cats won both the block battle (7-3) and the service ace department (9-4).

WSC will cap off their regular season at #6 Concordia-St. Paul Saturday at 2 p.m.

In Class C1, #10 Bishop Neumann takes down #1 Pierce, 23-21, #3 Ord defeats #11 Ashland-Greenwood, 42-7, #4 Wahoo defeated #5 Adams Central, 45-7 and #1 Aurora downed #8 Gothenburg, 54-20

C2: #2 Sutton defeated #10 Aquinas Catholic, 38-14; #3 Norfolk Catholic defeated #6 St. Paul, 56-12; #4 Oakland Craig won against #5 Wilber-Clatonia, 35-21 and #1 Centennial edged #8 BRLD, 33-28.

11-man semifinal football is scheduled for next Friday, November 9.
