Wildcats Drop Four Spots To #12 In AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll

WAYNE – After working their way into the top 10 rankings last week, the Wayne State College volleyball team split a pair of road matches against non-ranked opponents.

The Wildcat volleyball team fell four spots to #12 in the AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll after sweeping Minnesota Crookston but falling in four sets to Bemidji State. WSC is now 18-4 (9-4 NSIC) receiving 610 points in voting conducted by various DII coaches.

Cal State San Bernardino continued their undefeated start at 19-0 remaining as the top team with 45 first place votes and 1149 points. UNK stayed right behind at number two with their 22-0 record with the final first place vote and just 45 points behind the top spot as the only ranked teams undefeated.

Other NSIC teams ranked along with 12th ranked WSC includes: #3 Minnesota Duluth (19-2) up two spots; #6 Concordia-St. Paul (17-4) up one spot, #7 Northern State (18-3) down four spots; #11 St. Cloud State (17-4) up two spots; #15 Southwest Minnesota State (13-8) down four spots; #16 Winona State (17-4) up one spot and #22 Upper Iowa (15-6) down one spot. Minnesota State-Mankato (43) was receiving votes and listed on two or more ballots.

Freshman outside/right side hitter Jasmine Mulvihill of Concordia-St. Paul earned the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week; senior middle blocker Sara Macek of CSP took home the NSIC Defensive POW and senior Emily (Torve) Balts of Minnesota Duluth was selected as the NSIC Setter of the Week.

Wayne State will next visit Augustana University on Thursday, October 31 at 6 p.m. before hosting Sioux Falls on Saturday, November 2 at 1 p.m. WSC won in four sets over Augie in a non-conference game on September 24.
