Wildcat Women’s Soccer Drops Sunday Afternoon Match, Allow Four Second Half Goals

WAYNE – For the second time in three days, the Wayne State College women’s soccer team took to the home field for a non-conference outing.

From the WSC soccer pitch, the Wildcats welcomed in Northwestern Oklahoma State to close out non-conference competition on Sunday.

The Wildcats held an early 1-0 lead at the half before Northwestern Oklahoma State scored four second half goals in less than 20 minutes. Northwestern Oklahoma State improves to 3-1 as the ‘Cats fell to 0-2-1.

Megan Phillips scored the lone WSC goal in the 44th minute as Northwestern Oklahoma State had goals in the 65th, 78th, 79th and 83rd minutes.

Northwestern Oklahoma State outshot WSC, 9-8 (7-4 on goal) as WSC won the corner kick battle, 10-5.

Phillips placed two of her four shots on goal and scored once. Brooke Worrel placed her lone shot on goal as Morgan Rhodes had one of her two shots on goal. Abby Sutton also attempted a shot.

Regan Ott allowed four goals and recorded three saves in 90 minutes of goal time.

The Wayne State College women’s soccer team will next open NSIC play with Minnesota State-Mankato on Friday, September 17 at 3 p.m. and Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday, September 19 at 1 p.m.
