Wildcat Women’s Soccer Closes Out Regular Season Play Friday At Augie, Postseason Hopes On The Line

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Wayne State College women’s soccer team controls their own destiny in punching their ticket for postseason competition with the regular season coming to an end this weekend.

WSC is 6-7-4 overall (6-6-2 NSIC) and have recently dropped two matches to ranked opponents of a 1-0 loss at #20 Concordia-St. Paul last Friday and 4-0 home loss to #13 Minnesota State-Mankato Sunday. *Rankings based through November 3 matches on United Soccer Coaches’ Poll.

The ‘Cats will next face one of the top teams in the Central region and current third-best team in the conference, Augustana on Friday, November 8 at 3 p.m. in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Augie is 11-2-1 (13-3-1 NSIC).

A win earns a team three points and a tie one point as only eight teams advance to the postseason tourney.

Entering the day, Minnesota State-Mankato is the top team in the conference with 36 points just ahead of Concordia-St. Paul who has 35 points. The two teams will meet Friday at 1 p.m. in Mankato, Minnesota to decide the top seed.

Augustana is close behind in third with 34 points, Bemidji State is fourth (31), St. Cloud State at fifth (26), Southwest Minnesota State (sixth – 24), University of Mary (seventh – 23) and Wayne State (eighth – 20). Winona State is just two points behind WSC in ninth (18) as the Warriors will end their season Friday night hosting Upper Iowa.

WSC defeated Winona State 2-1 in Wayne on October 13.

The NSIC Tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, November 13; Friday, November 15 and Sunday, November 17. The top four seeds will be the host for the first round followed by the semifinal and championship rounds at the campus of the highest remaining seed.
