Wildcat Women’s Rugby Outscored Opponents 145-31 On Way To Defending NSCRO 7s Title

CHESWICK, PA – The Wayne State College women’s club rugby program made the trek to Founder’s Field in Cheswick, Pennsylvania over the weekend for the 2019 NSCRO Women’s 7s National Tournament.

WSC began National Small College Rugby Organization games Saturday with three pool play wins. The ‘Cats defeated Swarthmore College (PA) (21-0), Colgate University (NY) (26-12) and University of Findlay (OH) (19-7).

Wayne State then shutout York College of PA 29-0 Saturday.

Moving into Sunday, the Wildcat women downed Simpson College (IA) (21-5) to earn a spot in the championship match where they took down University of Rochester (NY) (29-7). The Wildcats won back-to-back 7s titles.

The Wayne State women’s club rugby program has now won 10 NSCRO titles, their fifth 7-on-7 championship. This also marks the second time that the ‘Cats have won both the 7s and 15s championship matches in the same season.

Endicott College (MA) defeated Simpson for third place (12-10).

Kennedy Jones and Brooke Hoesing of Wayne State were both named to the All-Tournament Team with Jones receiving the MVP award.
