Women’s Rugby Outscores Opponents 235-0 During Division I 7s Invite, Wildcat Men Go 1-2

IOWA CITY, IA – As the Wayne State College women’s and men’s rugby teams make the transition from 15s to 7-on-7 play, the Wildcats kicked off their 2020 schedule this past weekend.

WSC participated in the Iowa City Tournament in Iowa City, Iowa on Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15.

The Wayne State women won all five of their matches in the Hawkeye Indoor DI Invite without conceding a point.

WSC defeated Davenport 45-0, Minnesota 46-0 and Iowa State 48-0 in pool play. The ‘Cats also defeated Iowa in the semifinal 35-0 before shutting out the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 61-0.

Also, the Wildcat men posted a 1-2 weekend. WSC defeated QC Irish and lost matches to University of Iowa and Palmer.

Next up for Wayne State 7s women’s rugby team will be a large DI tournament hosted by Oklahoma University on March 7.

The Wayne State College women’s and men’s 7s will also take part in the South Dakota State University Tournament in Brookings, South Dakota on March 22. Then on March 28, the WSC men will compete in the KU Tournament in Lawrence, Kansas at the same time the Wildcat women go to Notre Dame, IN for the Notre Dame Tournament.

The women’s and men’s conference championships will be held April 4-5 at a location to be determined, the women will face USD in Vermillion, South Dakota on April 18 and the Men’s 7s National Qualifier will be held in Des Moines, IA on April 24. The April 4 date will be the Women’s 7s National Qualifier.
