Wildcat Women Finish Fifth, WSC Men Place Fifth During Dordt Defender Classic

SIOUX CENTER, IA – As the NSIC Cross Country Championships are slated to be held in Wayne later this month, the Wayne State College women’s and men’s cross country team closed out their regular season schedule over the weekend.

From the Dordt campus course in Sioux Center, Iowa, WSC competed in the Dordt Defender Classic on Saturday, October 9.

Senior Allie Rosener and sophomore Brooke Solomon were the top Wayne State women finishers as the Wildcats finished fifth.

Augustana captured the team title with 20 points followed by host Dordt in second at 64 points and Morningside third with 88 points. Doane was fourth at 94 points followed by Wayne State (123), Northwestern College (142), Sioux Falls (204) and Mount Marty (245).

Rosener was the highest placing Wildcat runner crossing the finish line on the 5,000-meter course in 13th place out of 105 runners in 19:15, while Solomon was next in 25th place at 19:52 followed by Wayne senior Andrea Torres in 30th place at 20:04.

Other Wildcat runners were Kelsey Larsen 41st – 20:33, Alison Stineman 45th – 20:47, Amanda Mote 60th – 21:26, Kylie Pachta 66th – 21:39 and Marin Jetensky 86th – 23:02.


In the men’s division, Wayne State College placed third with 99 points.

Host Dordt easily won the men’s title with 19 points, well ahead of second place Doane at 79 points with Wayne State third at 99 points. Rounding out the team standings were Northwestern (100), Bellevue University (126), Morningside (152), Sioux Falls (180), Mount Marty (192) and Briar Cliff (216).

Junior Will McGonigal was the top Wildcat runner placing 21st out of a field of 116 runners with a time of 26:33 on the 8,000-meter course. Senior Brock Hegarty was close behind in 25th place at 26:52 with sophomore Brandon Mundorf 28th in 27:06.

Other Wildcat finishers were Isaac Richards – 37th at 27:29, Bryce Holcomb 45th – 27:51, Abe Schroeder 55th – 28:12, Brandon Mitzel 58th – 28:17, Nathan Hiemer 72nd – 29:08, Gabe Peitz 84th – 29:49 and Dawsonn Lawver 88th – 30:00.

The next meet for Wayne State College will be the Northern Sun Conference Championships hosted by the Wildcats at the Wayne Country Club on Saturday, October 23 at 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.
