Wildcat Women Finish 12th, WSC Men Place 11th During NSIC Cross Country Championships

WAYNE – NCAA Division II cross country teams took over the Wayne Country Club Saturday.

Wayne State College welcomed in NSIC programs during the 2021 Conference Championships.

The Wildcat women finished 12th with 329 points while the WSC men took 11th with 303 points.

From the women’s division, Augustana easily captured the team title with 20 points followed by University of Mary in second at 84 points, just ahead of third place Minnesota Duluth with 86 points. Rounding out the top five teams were Minnesota State (99) and Winona State (104).

Sioux Falls came in sixth place at 206 points with Northern State seventh 228 points. Minot State (257), MSU Moorhead (267) and St. Cloud State (287) wrapped up the top 10 teams.

Bemidji State was 11th with 304 points while Wayne State (329), Upper Iowa (374), Southwest Minnesota State (426), Concordia-St. Paul (444) and Minnesota Crookston (512) rounding out the team scoring.

Newcastle senior Allie Rosener was the top Wayne State runner, taking 60th overall out of a field of 142 runners covering the 6,000-meter course in a time of 24:21. Sophomore Brooke Solomon followed in 78th place at 25:07 with Wayne senior Andrea Torres taking 82nd overall in 25:15.

Other Wildcat runners included Alison Stineman 84th place at 25:16, Kelsey Larsen 102nd in 26:11, Kylie Pachta 104th at 26:13, Amanda Mote 113th in 27:13 and Marin Jetensky 131st at 29:12.


In the men’s division, Augustana had the top six finishers and scored a perfect 15 points to easily top second place University of Mary at 83 points for the team title. Sioux Falls came in third at 105 points followed by Minnesota Duluth (113) and Minnesota State (122).

Winona State was sixth at 161 points followed by Minot State (216), MSU Moorhead (243), Northern State (248) and Concordia-St. Paul (262) closing out the top 10.

Wayne State was 11th at 303 points with Minnesota Crookston (357), Southwest Minnesota State (380) and Upper Iowa (395) wrapping up the team scoring.

Senior Brock Hegarty covered the 8,000-meter course in a time of 27:27 to finish 55th out of 125 men’s runners. Junior Will McGonigal was next in 64th place at 27:40 while sophomore Brandon Mundorf took 70th overall in a time of 27:53.

Senior Bryce Holcomb came in 72nd place at 27:51 with Abe Schroeder 89th in 28:38.

Holcomb was also named the inaugural winner of NSIC Outstanding Senior Award in men’s cross country.

Other Wayne State runners were Brandon Mitzel 95th in 28:55, Isaac Richards 99th at 29:07, Gabe Peitz 111th – 30:04, Nathan Hiemer 118th – 31:16 and Dawsonn Lawver 120th in 31:47.

The Wayne State College women’s and men’s cross country team will next compete in the NCAA DII Central Regional from Joplin, Missouri on Saturday, November 6.
