WAYNE – The Wayne State College volleyball team added two more signees for the 2018-19 academic year Friday.
According to a release from the Wayne State Athletics Department, Gabby Sullivan of Iowa Central Community College and Lauren Jacobsen of Wisner-Pilger will continue their volleyball careers at Wayne State College.
The two will join Rachel Walker of Lincoln Southwest a part of the 2018 Wildcat recruiting class.
Sullivan is a 5-10 outside hitter from Allen (Allen HS) who led Iowa Central Community College to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament while posting some of the top hitting statistics in the nation. She accounted for 682 kills, the second-most in the nation, averaging 4.49 kills per set while leading the Tritons to a 32-11 record and 10th place finish at nationals. She also averaged 2.55 digs per set and scored 767 points, the second-most in the country.
Sullivan was named AVCA First Team All-American this season, becoming the first Triton player to ever receive First Team All-American honors. She holds single season school record for kills and attacks along with 43 kills in a single match.
During her two years at Iowa Central, Sullivan averaged 3.62 kills and 1.87 digs per set while winning 59 matches and will have two years of eligibility with the Wildcats.
At Allen High School, Sullivan was a three-sport standout in volleyball, basketball and track and field. She was a three-time All Lewis and Clark Conference First Team selection in basketball, was First Team All-Conference in volleyball twice and was a Class D State Track qualifier three years in the high jump and once in the triple jump, placing seventh at state as a junior in the high jump.
Jacobsen is a 5-10 setter from Wisner-Pilger High School who is a four-year starter and letter winner in volleyball, swimming (Norfolk HS) and track and field for the Gators.
This season, Jacobsen earned First Team All-East Husker Conference honors and was named to the Norfolk Daily News Elite Eight team to go with Class C-2 honorable mention All-State while helping Wisner-Pilger to a 24-9 record. She was an individual state medalist in Class A State Swimming as a sophomore, junior and senior and in track & field has placed in the Class C 400-meter dash as a sophomore (seventh) and junior (eighth).
Jacobsen holds numerous school records in swimming and the 400-meter dash and is a three-year qualifier for the Norfolk Track & Field Classic. She is a Wendy’s Heisman State winner and excels in the classroom earning Academic All-State honors in volleyball, swimming and track & field as a sophomore, junior and senior.
The Wayne State College volleyball team finished the 2016 season with a record of 19-12 overall and 12-8 in the NSIC, graduating just two seniors.
