Wildcat Volleyball Tabbed 20th In First Regular Season AVCA DII Top 25 Coaches Poll

WAYNE – When the preseason polls were first released, the Wayne State College volleyball team was just outside the Top 25 rankings. Now, after dominating 12 straights sets in Florida the ‘Cats are right back in.

Wayne State College is ranked 20th in the first regular season AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll released Monday afternoon.

WSC earned 213 points in voting conducted by various DII coaches from across the country and have been ranked in every regular season national coaches poll dating back to September 28, 2009.

Wayne State opened the season over the weekend going 4-0 at the Embry-Riddle Tournament in Florida, posting 3-0 wins over Westminster (Utah), Lynn (Fla.), Valdosta State (Ga.) and host Embry-Riddle.

The Wildcats travel to Durant, Oklahoma this weekend for the Southeastern Oklahoma State Tournament on Friday and Saturday, facing Southern Nazarene and East Central (Okla.) Friday and Southeastern Oklahoma State and #19 Central Oklahoma Saturday.

NSIC teams ranked inside the Top 25:

#1 Minnesota Duluth, #2 Concordia-St. Paul, #7 Northern State, #8 Southwest Minnesota State and #22 Augustana. Winona State and Upper Iowa are receiving votes.
