Wildcat Volleyball Starts Season 2-0, Combine For 20 Service Aces

JOPLIN, MO – The Wayne State College volleyball team began their first non-conference schedule of games on the road.

WSC competed in day one of the Missouri Southern Tournament in Joplin, Missouri Friday with an afternoon and evening match.

To start the day, the ‘Cats topped Cameron University (OK) in straight sets (26-24, 25-10, 25-11). Then, in the evening WSC swept Southwestern Oklahoma State (25-12, 25-11, 25-13). The Wildcat volleyball team began their season at 2-0.

In the opening match with Cameron, WSC hit .388 as a team led by Kelsie Cada with 13 kills and Maddie Knobbe following with 12 kills and three blocks. Jaci Brahmer picked up nine kills and another seven from Tarrin Beller. Haley Kauth tallied 11 digs and three aces as Carter Hope recorded 10 digs. Rachel Walker led the team in set assists with 37.

The ‘Cats also had eight service aces and four blocks as a team.

From the second match against Southwestern Oklahoma State, Tarrin Beller and Cada (11 digs) both had nine kills as Maddie Knobbe and Katie Stephens tacked on seven kills each. Jaci Brahmer added six kills. Hope paced the dig department with 16 as Kauth posted 10 digs and Walker tallied 37 set assists.

WSC recorded 12 service aces led by Hope with seven, Cada with three and two from Kauth.

The Wayne State College volleyball team will next face Black Hills State University of South Dakota at 9 a.m. and Colorado State University – Pueblo at 3 p.m. Saturday.
