Wildcat Volleyball Secures Tuesday Beach Victories During Spring Trip

MESA, ARIZONA – Following a Monday indoor spring scrimmage victory over Benedictine Mesa, the Wayne State College volleyball team transitioned to the beach Tuesday.

According to a release from the Wayne State Athletics office, WSC began the morning with a 3-2 victory over Benedictine University of Arizona before winning 4-1 over Park-Gilbert University of Arizona at Gene Autry Park in Mesa, Arizona. WSC improves to 2-0 on the beach season.

The Wildcats opened the match with Benedictine with a win at #1’s when Hope Carter and Taya Bellar posted a 21-5 and 21-17 win.

Benedictine evened the match at 1-1 with a 2-0 win in the #2 match over Kelsie Cada and Jordan McCormick, but WSC took control of the contest with wins in the next two matches for a 3-1 lead.

Jacee Weber and Elly Larson posted a 21-15, 21-18 win in the #3 match followed by a Wildcat win from Maddie Duffy and Alyssa Ballenger in the #4 contest 21-18, 21-9.

Benedictine made the final score 3-2 with a win in the #5 match over Jaci Brahmer and Lauren Jacobsen 21-19, 21-19.

In the #6 match, Wayne State’s Jessie Brandl and Isabelle Vacek won in straight sets 21-15, 21-12.


Moving into the victory over Park-Gilbert, three of the six matches went all three sets, including the opening two contests.

Wayne State’s #1 team of Hope Carter and Taya Bellar prevailed 18-21, 21-19 and 19-17 in a thrilling opening match.The Buccaneers evened the match with a three-set win in the #2 match over Alyssa Ballenger and Maddie Duffy.

Kelsie Cada and Jordan McCormick gave WSC the lead for good in the #3 match with a 21-16, 21-9 victory.

Jacee Weber and Elly Larson added to the Wildcat advantage with a 21-10, 21-15 win in the #4 match.

The ‘Cats closed out the match with a three-set win in the #5 match by Jessie Brandl and Isabelle Vacek.

The extra match saw Jaci Brahmer and Lauren Jacobsen record a 21-11, 21-8 win.

The Wayne State College beach volleyball team will play two more matches on Wednesday in Arizona, facing Ottawa of Arizona and Arizona Christian University.
