Wildcat Volleyball Rallies In Five, Take Down #18 Upper Iowa

FAYETTE, IA – After winning the final two sets over a top 20 opponent Friday night, the 15th ranked Wayne State College volleyball team was back in action taking on another ranked team.

From Dorman Gymnasium in Fayette, Iowa, WSC visited #18 Upper Iowa Saturday.

After dropping sets one and two (25-22, 25-17), WSC edged the Peacocks in the third set (25-23) before winning the fourth (25-21) and fifth (15-8). The ‘Cats improved to 15-2 (6-2 NSIC) while Upper Iowa fell to 12-4 (4-4 NSIC).

Katie Stephens paced Wayne State in kills with 18 to go along with four blocks, followed by Tarrin Beller (three service aces) with 15 kills and Alyssa Ballenger added 10 kills. Dig leaders went to Hope Carter (two aces) and Haley Kauth with 26 each while Morgan Alexander tallied 14 digs and Rachel Walker recorded a double-double with 48 set assists and 10 digs. Jaci Brahmer finished with eight blocks and eight kills as Maddie Knobbe tacked on five blocks (one solo).

WSC outhit Upper Iowa, .182 to .158 while holding a 12.5-5.0 advantage in blocks and both teams had five service aces.

The Wayne State College volleyball team will next play three at Rice Auditorium starting with #9 Southwest Minnesota State on Tuesday, October 15 at 6 p.m.
