Wildcat Volleyball Drops One More Spot To 13th In AVCA Rankings

WAYNE – As the Wayne State College volleyball teams prepares for three more road conference games and a non-league match in the coming week, WSC fell back one spot to #13.

According to a release from the Wayne State Athletics office, the ‘Cats now sit #13 in the AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll. Wayne State is receiving 549 points in voting conducted by various DII coaches from across the nation.

The Wildcats are 19-5 overall and 10-5 in league play sitting tied for fifth with #16 Winona State in the NSIC standings. WSC recently dropped a five-set match at Augustana and swept USF at home.

The Wayne State College volleyball team is scheduled to visit #18 Southwest Minnesota State on Tuesday, November 5 at 6 p.m. SMSU is 14-9 (8-7 NSIC), tied for eighth in league play with #22 Upper Iowa and (RV) Minnesota State-Mankato as the ‘Cats won in five sets over the Mustangs on October 15 in Wayne.

WSC will also travel to Minot State Friday at 6 p.m. and the University of Mary Saturday for an 11 a.m. contest.

Cal State San Bernardino continues to remain as the top team with their 21-0 record receiving 43 first place votes as Nebraska-Kearney is right behind sitting 26-0 with the remaining three-first place votes.

Other NSIC teams joining #13 Wayne State are #5 Minnesota Duluth (20-3) dropped two spots; #6 Concordia-St. Paul (19-4) remained the same; #7 Northern State (20-3) remained the same; #8 St. Cloud State (19-4) moved up three spots; #16 Winona State (18-5) remained the same; #18 Southwest Minnesota State (14-9) fell three spots and #22 Upper Iowa (16-7) remained the same. Augustana (62) and Minnesota State-Mankato (12) were also receiving votes and listed on two or more ballots.

According to the NSIC Volleyball Release Number 9: freshman outside/right side hitter Jasmine Mulvihill of Concordia-St. Paul earned the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week; senior libero Clara Krenz of St. Cloud State was named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore Payton Nutter of Concordia-St. Paul was tabbed the NSIC Setter of the week.
