Wildcat Volleyball Continues To Receive Votes On AVCA Top 25 Poll

WAYNE – With just two weekends of regular season collegiate volleyball remaining, the most recent AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Top 25 Coaches’ Poll still features WSC.

Released Monday late afternoon, the Wildcat volleyball team is 19-6 overall and are listed as receiving 42 points in voting conducted by various Division II volleyball coaches.

The Wayne State College volleyball team recently swept University of Mary and Minot State this past weekend to improve to 19-6 overall and 11-5 in the NSIC (tied for fifth). WSC has won three straight matches and six of their past seven in the month of October.

Other NSIC ranked teams: #1 Concordia-St. Paul (21-4) jumped up two spots with 1,146 points and 28 first-place votes, #5 Northern State (22-2) fell from #1 with 962 points and one first-place vote, #8 Minnesota Duluth (20-5) fell a spot with 844 point and #12 Southwest Minnesota State (17-7) gained four spots with 638 points.

As of Tuesday, in the NSIC standings: Concordia-St. Paul (15-1) is the top team, followed by Northern State (14-2), Minnesota Duluth in third (13-3), Southwest Minnesota State fourth (12-4), WSC and Sioux Falls are tied for fifth (11-5), Upper Iowa and Minnesota State-Mankato are tied for seventh (9-7) as St. Cloud State and Winona State are tied for ninth (8-8).

The Wayne State College volleyball team will close out their non-conference schedule when they visit South Dakota School of Mines Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. WSC will then play their final regular season home matches this weekend as Winona State will be in town on Friday at 6 p.m. and Upper Iowa on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The regular season ends next Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3 when the ‘Cats visit Minnesota State-Mankato at 6 p.m. and Concordia-St. Paul at 2 p.m.

NSIC Tournament first round play begins on Tuesday, November 6 for the top eight conference teams.
