DURANT, OK – #20 Wayne State College went right back to work Saturday during the Southeastern Oklahoma State Volleyball Tournament.
WSC opened with the host, Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant Oklahoma to record a sweep (25-14, 25-21, 25-20) before taking on their first ranked opponent of the season.
#19 Central Oklahoma handed Wayne State College their first defeat of the year in four sets (21-25, 25-17, 24-26, 22-25). WSC is now 7-1 on the season after non-conference play.
From the sweep over Southeastern Oklahoma State, Katie Stephens recorded a double-double with 10 kills and a team-high 12 digs as Tarrin Beller added 10 kills. Alyssa Ballinger picked up nine kills, Megan Gebhardt paced the team in assists with 33 as Morgan Alexander came away with nine digs.
WSC outhit Southeastern Oklahoma, .305 to .120 and came way with 11 blocks compared to three from SOSU.
During the four set loss to #19 Central Oklahoma, Stephens again dominated the net for WSC with 15 kills and 15 digs while Jaci Brahmer came away with 14 kills. Gebhardt posted 43 set assists while Haley Kauth tabbed 28 digs.
WSC still outhit Central Oklahoma, .182 to .135 and won the block category, 13-5 despite the defeat.
#20 Wayne State College will open NSIC play on Thursday, September 6 at Sioux Falls before #8 Southwest Minnesota State will be in town this Saturday. Game times are scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday on the road and 1 p.m. at Rice Auditorium in Wayne Saturday.
