WSC Sweeps Bridgeport, Return To Play Friday Afternoon

GARDEN CITY, NY – Back-to-back volleyball matches are in the books for #17 Wayne State College in New York.

Back at the Center for Recreation and Sport in Garden City, WSC competed against University of Bridgeport (CT) Thursday afternoon.

After sweeping Adelphi earlier in the day of 25-23, 25-21, 25-16; the Wildcats then swept the Purple Nights, 25-16, 25-14, 25-11 who is a member of the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference (North Division).

The Wildcats are now 2-0 on the season as Bridgeport fell to 0-1.

Maggie Brahmer posted a .714 attack percentage with 10 kills and two blocks, Kelsie Cada added nine kills, 13 digs and a solo block followed Jordan McCormick with eight kills and six digs.

Rachel Walker finished with 34 set assists and 13 digs for a double-double to go along with a block while Jessie Brandl had a team-high 14 digs.

Taya Beller recorded seven kills, four blocks (one solo) and two digs; Isabelle Vacek tallied six kills, three blocks (one solo) and a dig as Taylor Bunjer tacked on five kills and two blocks. Other digs came from Havyn Heinz (eight).

Service aces came from Cada, Walker and Brooke Peltz all with one. WSC had five service errors.

Wayne State College finished with a .369 attack percentage and eight total blocks.

Bridgeport was held to a 0.043 attack percentage.

#17 Wayne State College will conclude their opening tournament by traveling to Rockville Centre, New York on Friday to face Nyack College and Molloy College (both of NY) at 1/3 p.m. CT.
