Wildcat Throwers To Take The Stage During Indoor Nationals Next Thursday

BIRMINGHAM, AL – With spring sports now getting their chance that they missed out on during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, this March is in full swing that includes the NCAA Division II Nationals.

A trio of Wayne State College indoor track & field athletes will compete in Birmingham, Alabama on Thursday, March 11.

For the third straight year, Mckenzie Scheil has qualified in the weight throw for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Scheil, a junior from Fairmont (Fillmore Central HS), has the top mark in NCAA Division II during the regular season entering the national championships after winning the weight throw at last weekend’s NSIC Indoor Championships in Mankato, Minnesota. She set a new school record mark of 67’ 9 ¾”.

Scheil is scheduled to compete in the weight throw on Thursday, March 11 at 4 p.m. at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.

 

The Wildcat men will send throwers Cade Kalkowski and Cole Christoffersen to the 2021 NCAA Division II Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Kalkowski, a senior from Niobrara (Niobrara HS), is a national qualifier in the weight throw for a third straight season. He ranks fourth in NCAA Division II with a provisional qualifying mark of 67’ 11 1/2” that took place on January 23 at the Dakota Reality Invite in South Dakota. He earned All-NSIC honors in the weight throw last weekend at the NSIC Indoor Championships with a throw of 66’ 2 ½”. Kalkowski will compete in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Thursday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m.

Christoffersen, a senior from Lyons (Lyons-Decatur Northeast HS), is a national qualifier in the weight throw for the first time after throwing a season-best mark of 63’ 9 ¾” at last weekend’s NSIC Indoor Championships. He is ranked 14th in NCAA Division II in the weight throw and competes in the national championships on Thursday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m.
