WAYNE – For the second time in January a member of the Wayne State College men’s indoor track and field team earned an award from the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota.
Senior multi’s-athlete Robert Sullivan was named the NSIC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week following the fifth release of the season. Sullivan, a two-time NCAA indoor national qualifier in the heptathlon won the event with an NCAA provisional mark of 5,177 points at the Mark Schuck Open in Mankato, Minnesota.
Two weeks ago, on January 15, Cade Kalkowski was also named the Field Athlete of the Week.
The Omaha Burke graduate currently ranks fourth in NCAA Division II in the heptathlon.
Sullivan also set a new school record in the high jump at 6’ 9 ¾” surpassing his own mark of 6’ 8 ¾” last season. He now is tied for 12th in NCAA DII with the NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
The Track Athlete of the Week was awarded to senior sprinter John Schuster of Minnesota State-Mankato.
On the women’s side the Track Athlete was sophomore distance-runner Taryn Ceglowski from Sioux Falls and Field Athlete went to sophomore thrower Katie Taylor of MSU-Mankato.
Wayne State College will compete on Saturday at the Dakota Reality Alumni Invitational in Vermillion, South Dakota at the Dakota Dome. Also, select athletes will compete in the Husker Invite on Friday, February 1 starting at 4:30 p.m.
