WAYNE – With the regular season coming to an end this weekend for the Wayne State College men’s basketball team, the Wildcats were being recognized in a regional poll.
According to a release from the Wayne State Athletics office, WSC was listed as one of five NSIC teams in the first NCAA DII Central Regional Rankings.
Due to the disparity of games played this season and the limited data available, the NCAA office in Indianapolis, Indiana listed schools as “under consideration” for championship selection in alphabetical order for this regional ranking.
WSC was joined by Augustana, MSU Moorhead, Northern State and Upper Iowa of the NSIC while Missouri Southern, Northwest Missouri State and Washburn from the MIAA also made the top eight.
Wayne State College is 9-5 overall and 9-3 in league play. WSC will visit Augustana University on Friday, February 19 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, February 20 at 3 p.m. in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) make up the NCAA Central Region this year. The top six teams in the region advance to the NCAA Central Regional Tournament March 13, 14 and 16 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Automatic bids are granted to the winners of the NSIC and MIAA post-season tournaments with the remaining four spots awarded on an at-large basis.
The NCAA Men’s Basketball Selection Show is set to air on NCAA.com at 9:30 p.m. (CT) on Sunday, March 7. The NCAA Elite Eight will take place on March 24-27 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.
