Wildcat Men Take Care Of Business In Midwest Region, Both WSC Women And Men To Appear In Final Four Championships

ST. LOUIS, MO – With the Men’s Small College Challenge Cup Regional Finals now in the books, the Wayne State College club rugby program will continue their road to Houston in early December.

From St. Louis, Missouri, the Wildcat men opened with University of Chicago while the other half of the Midwest Region featured Slippery Rock (PA) vs. Case Western (OH) on Saturday.

The Wayne State men topped University of Chicago, 45-7 Saturday afternoon followed by Slippery Rock edging Case Western, 26-22 in the Sweet 16 Round. Then on Sunday in the Elite 8, the Wayne State men defeated Slippery Rocky, 78-12 advancing to the Final Four.

Unranked WSC will take on #17 Siena (NY) while #18 Western Oregon (OR) will face #21 College of Charleston (SC) in the Final Four.

Again, the Wayne State College men will represent the Midwest Region; Siena shutout Mass Maritime, 108-0 in the Northeast Region; College of Charleston defeated Widener, 42-33 in the South Region as Western Oregon won the West Region with no competition.

The 2021 15’s Men’s Small College Challenge Cup will be held Friday, December 10 – Sunday, December 12 in Houston, Texas.

 

Also, the Women’s National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) Final Four is set in Knoxville, Tennessee for Saturday, December 4 – Sunday, December 5. #1 WSC will open with #16 Northern Michigan at 11 a.m. ahead of #3 Lee (TN) vs. #6 SUNY Cortland (NY) at 9 a.m. from the Tennessee Rugby Complex.

Wayne State was crowned West Region champions with no competition; Northern Michigan dominated #7 MSU Moorhead, 74-19 in the Midwest Region; #3 Lee University won 37-17 over #25 Loyola University (MD) in the South Region as #6 SUNY Cortland (NY) defeated #2 Endicott College, 34-10 in the Northeast Region.
