Wildcat Men Shoot 53.3% From Field, Run Away From Upper Iowa

WAYNE – For the third consecutive week, the Wayne State College men’s basketball team began their weekend with a Friday night victory.

From Rice Auditorium, WSC welcomed in Upper Iowa during a NSIC South Division showdown.

The Wildcat men dominated the offensive glass (20-7) and outscored the Peacocks 24-4 in second chance points enroute to a 99-71 home victory. WSC improves to 4-3 (4-1 NSIC) while Upper Iowa dropped their fifth straight now at 2-5 (0-3 NSIC).

WSC went on a 10-0 run to start the game which was quickly answer by a 6-0 run from Upper Iowa. Following a 19-19 tie with 10:43 left in the first half, WSC never looked back and outscored the Peacocks 48-32 at the break. Wayne State also won the second half 51-39 to win 99-71.

The Wayne State men were led in scoring by junior Jordan Janssen with his 30th career double-double totaling 23 points and 16 rebounds (10-15 FG/3-3 FT) to go along with three assists and one block. Freshman Jay Saunders added 16 points (5-8 FG/3-5 3PT/3-3 FT); junior Nate Mohr had 13 points and six assists (5-10 FG/3-7 3PT); freshman Cody McCullough poured in 12 points and grabbed eight boards (6-10 FG) as freshman Alec Millender tallied 11 points (5-10 FG/1-3 3PT).

Other scoring came from redshirt freshman Justin Eagins with nine points while senior Ben Dentlinger (two blocks), junior Henry Penner and freshman Zach LaFave all finished with five points.

WSC shot 40-75 (53.3%) from the field, 11-26 (42.3%) from behind the arc and 8-10 (80%) from the foul line.

Upper Iowa was led by redshirt senior Jareese Williams with 15 points.

The Peacocks finished 23-61 (37.7%) from the floor, 8-26 (30.8%) from the three-point line and 17-23 (73.9%) at the charity stripe.
