WAYNE – With already one meet under their belt, the Wayne State College men’s track & field team will be gearing up for the 2019 schedule over the upcoming break.
Released last Friday by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota, the 2019 Preseason NSIC Men’s Indoor Track and Field Coaches Poll was announced.
Minnesota State was a unanimous selection to win the men’s division this season with 100 points and 10 of 11 first place votes. University of Mary was second with 85 points and the remaining first place vote from the Mavericks. Sioux Falls (81), Augustana (74) and Minnesota Duluth (65) rounded out the top five teams.
MSU Moorhead edged Wayne State 50-48 for sixth place in the poll. Concordia-St. Paul (44), Northern State (29), Southwest Minnesota State (18) and Minot State (11) closed out the voting in the men’s poll.
Seniors Clay Kramper and Robert Sullivan were listed as this year’s Wildcat Athletes to Watch.
Sullivan, a senior from Bennington, (Omaha Burke HS), was listed as the Wildcat Field Athlete to Watch this season. He is the two-time reigning NSIC champion in the heptathlon and has qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Nationals in the event the last two seasons. Sullivan also scored points in three other events last year at the NSIC Indoor Championships, taking fifth in the long jump, sixth in the high jump and eighth in the 60-meter hurdles.
Kramper, a senior from Homer (Homer HS), was selected the Wildcat Track Athlete to Watch this year. He set a school record last season in the 200-meter dash during the indoor season and placed fourth at the NSIC Indoor Championships while also running a leg on the third place 4 x 400 meter relay team.
The Wayne State men competed in the South Dakota State Holiday Open last Thursday. WSC will next compete in the Doan Invite in Crete, Nebraska on Saturday, January 12 which will open three meets in January.
